- Course Description: This course gave students experience in preparing rock samples to be made into thin sections, and then preparing the thin sections themselves. Large and small rock saws, grinders, grinding plates and micropolish wheels were all used in the preparation of the samples. Once the thin sections were complete, they were examined by the instructor, and then analyzed petrographically to discern the history of the rock.
