Connecting To MySBfiles Using a Web Browser on a MAC

View/Save Access to MySBfiles | Read-Only Access to MySBfiles | Back to MySBfiles

Mac OS X - View/Save Access using a Web Browser

WebDAV not only allows you to make a connection over HTTP, but it also allows you to have read/write access to your home directory. There are several third-party WebDAV client software packages that you can purchase to use on the MAC, as well as free clients such as Goliath, but this example will demonstrate how to use the WebDAV client native to MAC OS X.

  1. On the Go menu, click Connect to Server. . ., type in the following for the Server Address and click Connect:
    https://MySBfiles.stonybrook.edu:8443
    Connect to Server
Note:An alternative form of authentication using NTLM over HTTP is available, but it is not compatible with many systems. This type of connection would provide a faster connection than is possible with HTTPS. A successful connection is not guaranteed however.
To attempt to connect using NTLM over HTTP, use the following URL: http://MySBfiles.campus.stonybrook.edu/~

The third-party WebDAV client Goliath does work with this form of authentication however. For more information and to download a free copy of Goliath, visit the following web site: http://www.webdav.org/goliath

  2. Since you are attempting to use a more secure connection, you will possibly receive a prompt asking if you wish to connect to the web site even though it can't verify the certificate for the website. Click Continue. By doing so, you are agreeing to accept the web server certificate which will allow you to make a secure connection.
    Certification

  3. You will then be prompted with a logon prompt similar to the following. Just enter your NetID username and password and click Log In.

  4. MySBfiles has now been mounted and you can access it just as you would any other volume. Although possible, it is not recommended to edit files directly through a WebDAV connection though, due to the latency inherent in the connection.

  1. Open Safari and type the following URL in the appropriate field before hitting Enter on the Keyboard:
    https://MySBfiles.stonybrook.edu:8443

NOTE: An alternative form of authentication using NTLM over HTTP is available, but it is not compatible with many systems. This type of connection would provide a faster connection than is possible using HTTPS. A successful connection is not guaranteed however. To attempt to connect using NTLM over HTTP, use the following URL: http://MySBfiles.campus.stonybrook.edu/~

  3. You will then be prompted with a login prompt similar to the following.
Just enter your NetID username and password and click Log In.

  4. Once you're logged in, you'll see a view similar to the following. You can download files from and browse directories in your home directory, but you cannot write back to MySBfiles.
