New Internationalist Publications is a communications co-operative based in Oxford with editorial and sales offices in Toronto, Canada; Adelaide, Australia; Christchurch, Aotearoa /New Zealand; and Lewiston, USA. It exists to report on issues of world poverty and inequality; to focus attention on the unjust relationship between the powerful and the powerless in both rich and poor nations; to debate and campaign for the radical changes necessary if the basic material and spiritual needs of all are to be met. Originally the group only published the New Internationalist Magazine, sponsored by Oxfam, Christian Aid and the Cadbury and Rowntree Trusts. Today sponsorship is no longer needed. Besides the income earned from sales of the magazine, the group now produces films, books and other communications material for various United Nations and related bodies concerned with world development.

Established in 1865 by a group of abolitionists, The Nation is America's oldest weekly magazine and one of its premier journals of opinion. Throughout 130 years of commentary on politics, culture, books and the arts, The Nation has remained true to its original mandate to be the independent voice in American journalism. As the magazine's original prospectus from 1865 stated, "The Nation will not be the organ of any party, sect or body." This fiercely independent stance has not stopped The Nation from staking out long-term commitments from which it has never wavered: racial justice, anti-imperialism, civil liberties and social equality are all principles that have defined The Nation's editorial thrust. Over the years, these values have been the backbone of -- in the words of long-time Nation editor and current publisher Victor Navasky -- "a dissenting, independent, trouble-making, idea-launching journal of critical opinion."

In These Times is an independent political newsmagazine. Our purpose is to challenge the ideological conformity of the corporate media, and to make sense of the news bites and disembodied stories we are fed in the daily press and on television. As a not-for-profit publication supported entirely by our readers, we are free from the need to conform to advertisers or from the dictates of corporate headquarters. Instead, we report on events as our writers see and understand them. In These Times gives you news and views you can't find anywhere else.
