10 FAVORITE COMPUTER GAMES OF ALL TIME
- The Red Baron by Dynamix - Best combination of 3D Flight simulator and Arcade experience. Based on historical battles on the WW-I frontier; you can fly most major planes of that time (with flight models restored accordingly) and fight the war from the beginning till end feeling the developement of aviation of that time. Also, there's information on all major aces, including Manfred von Richtgofen, the Red Baron - and you can fight (and defeat!) all of them in a one-one dogfight ! You might also randomly encounter aces in regular various missions, which vary from airport defence to zeppeling hunt to reconaiisance protection etc. (over 12 in total).
- The Incredible Machine by Sierra - you have to play it to understand. The main idea of the game is to construct a certain machine that accomplishes the goal using various amazing fun modules. Thus, to light the candle you may need to place a fish bowl in front of a cat, so that the cat tries to reach for the bowl, falls down on a hamster cage, hamster starts to run inside his cage rotating some gears which are connected to a conveyor with a bowling ball on it, that sets the conveyor in motion, the bowling ball falls and turns on a flashlight which lights the candle through a magnifying glass ! And that is considered to be one of the simplest levels of the game !
- IL-2 Shturmovik by 1C/Maddox - THE Flight Sim; superrealistic models and very realistic flight modeling; great encyclopedia about all of the planes and units in the game; great fights and missions based on historical materials available - everything you could expect from a flight simulator
- Civilization 1 by Microprose - addictive turn-based strategy which all of us, I hope, have played. You start out with one city and grow to buid an empire ! You are the one and only to lead your nation from stone age to space age and beyond.
- Starcraft by Blizzard - THE best real-time stategy of all times ! Balance and variety is the key. The three races that are present in the key are so different, yet equivalent when it comes to gameplay. The craftfully made levels and amazing plot make gameplay fantasitc. Multiplayer is exciting and dynamic. All units in the game are necessary and useful in multi- and single-player. Superb graphics, sounds, user interface. This game can be talked about for hours, but playing it is better :)
