The first models of this kind of Volkswagen cars were known as type 1 model 1200, type 2 model 1300 and type 3 model 1500. It was not until 1967 that Volkswagen began officially using the name "Beetle" to advertise their cars.
The New models of the VW Beetle are manufactured in Puebla, Mexico beginning in 1998. The idea to change the form of the car into a more oval shape was developed by Mays and Freeman Thomas. After showing the concept to the public in California they decided to go ahead and begin the making. The first model of the New Beetle cars that was put out for consumers to buy was sold in 2003.
Ever since the New Beetle entered the market, consumers worldwide have been purchasing them with great success. The reviews from owners vary as they do with anything else. Overall consent seems to be that Volkswagen has improved the design and features of its old model so much so that the New Beetle is considered a turn of the century overall contemporary vehicle.

"I bought this as my first car out of college and I couldn't be happier. It handles pretty well with great steering and brake respone. I feel safe in it and love its compact size and it has a surprising amount of trunk room if you fold down the back seat."

"I love my bug! And our children do too! The children and I love the attention we get everywhere we go! I love driving my cute mellow yellow bug to work with the top down every morning. I wake up every day to a great day!"

"The smooth-running base gas engine feels peppy with manual transmission, though it's short on power at speeds above 60 mph with either gearbox. VW's turbodiesel has no problem keeping up with traffic, but its passing power does not match that of the gas engine--and being a diesel, it suffers more vibration and noise"

The following are pictures of the old beetles which were first manufactured in 1938 by Volkswagen.

Growing up in the late 1980's my parents owned an old Volkswagen Beetle. It was blue in color and had been passed
around in my family until it was my dad's turn to own it. We had nicknamed it Spencer as if it would have been a member of our family. I'll always
remember all the summer night drives in that car with a smile. Now that the time has passed and that Old Spencer is
no more, I have decided that when I graduate from Stony Brookand
are able to afford a brand new vehicle I want to buy a new 2010 VW Beetle. Here is the new and improved Spencer Jr.
Unfortunately until then I will have to drive my old car every monday, wednesday and fridays to go to my CSE 102 class!!
