THE WEB The World Wide Web is not unlike a geographical space that can be navigated and explored. You can move from location to location by knowing specific addresses (URLs in Web terms) or by following links from one place to the next. Basically, the Web is a user-friendly and graphical view of networked computers across the globe. Many different resources, people, and institutions can be found on the Web. Some websites are commercial and some are playfully personal. The Web is based on a "hypertext" model, which is much like a non-linear book. The notion of a "page" is the fundamental unit of navigation. You begin on one "page" and might go to any number of other "pages" by following "links" from the first page. These links might be words or images on a page. |
