FINDING THINGS...
Because people with access to computers that serve
websites can put up all manner of junk (Try this site to send a Valentine,
for instance: QPID.)
, it can be both fun and difficult to find interesting/useful sites.
You can search for various subjects/people/insitutions through one
of the general search engines on the Web. The compiled list of such
mechanisms can be found off the Net
Search button near the top of your Netscape window.
One of these search engines is especially thorough, searching many
pages on the Web for specific words: AltaVista.
Another search engine that works like this is HotBot.
If you are looking for something specific, try their SuperSearch.
Most search engines, however, work by having people submit their site
to a specific engine. This allows for searches by concept or category.
Excite is not bad with concepts. Yahoo is the old standard of organizing submitted
sites by category. Now there is even a site for helping with library
research. If you want to put something into these search engines
try Submit It, which will
let you send your info to many engines at once.
