Sigma Beta Constitution

All new members are considered to be provisional members of Sigma Beta.

In order to become a full member, each member must accrue a certain number of points depending on which year he or she was inducted. Once the required number of points is met, the member will then be inducted as a full member.

More information is provided below on how the point system works and various activities that can be completed in order to come closer to becoming a Sigma Beta full member.

If inducted as a: You need:
Freshman 30 points
Sophomore 24 points
Junior 12 points

Activities:
NOTE: All Sigma Beta sponsored events are generally worth two points, unless otherwise noted.

I. Serving as an officer:
President 10 points per year
Vice President 8 points per year
Events Coordinator 8 points per year
Secretary 6 points per year
Treasurer 6 points per year

II. Steering Committee:
Any 5 points per year

III. The Harbinger:
Editor in Chief 6 points per year
Writer 1 point per article (3 points maximum)
Photographer 1 point per roll of film (1 extra point for any photograph that is published which would normally be selected based on the following content: Sigma Beta members displaying the society's logo on a t-shirt, banner, etc. at the event photographed and/or interacting with other event participants or beneficiaries.)

IV. Old Exam File:
1 point/3 exams (no duplicates). A maximum of 5 points can be earned through submitting old exams.

V. General Meetings:
1 point per meeting.

VI. Food or Clothing Drives:
1 point per 5 items (a maximum of 5 points can be earned through food and clothing drives, therefore no more than 25 items of food and clothing combined will be accepted.)

VII. St. James Soup Kitchen
2 points per 2 hour visit (maximum of 3 visits for a total of 6 points; must remain for the full 2 hours to receive credit for attendance.)


Non Sigma Beta Activities:

NOTE: Proof of participation must be provided for all events where a Sigma Beta attendance list is not available. Documentation must include the following: Date and Time of the event, Student's name, Brief description of event, Duration of the event, and Signature of any event coordinator/supervisor. No documentation, including event programs and ticket stubs, will be accepted without a signature and the student's name printed on it.

NOTE: Only up to one-third of the total points may be earned by participating in Sigma Beta approved activities sponsored by other organizations.

I. 1 point per 4 hours of service.
Service must be a non-paying, volunteer activity
Service must benefit the campus or community

II. Examples.
Non-Sigma Beta Sponsored Blood Drives: 1 point per donation
NYPIRG: one point for every three people you register, and only a maximum of seven points can be awarded from this (21 people).
SBVAC
Raising monies for a charitable organization such as the Special Olympics, etc.
