11.29.2007 -- Last General Body Meeting, Dec. 12th
The last general body meeting will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 12th at 12:50PM in room SAC 302. We will be discussing opportunities for you to earn points during winter break. Please be on time and do not bring any donations, letters, exams, etc.... The last day to donate things (exams, letters, and Goodwill) is Friday, Dec. 7th at the Sigma Beta Social starting 7pm in SAC 303. Thank you.
Reminder: Please have an answer key with the exam since we cannot and will not accept them without one. Also, when donating Goodwill items, please make sure that it is in a bag and that you include sheet with an inventory of the items, your name, ID number, and year of induction. Thank you! 11.29.2007 -- Sigma Beta Activities
Hello all! If you missed the November general body meeting or have questions about the current activities, please read this entire announcement.
-Operation Christmas Child. All the boxes are wrapped and filled, so donations are no longer going to be accepted. If you have things, please save them for next semester just in case we have a similar kind of drive. Thank you to all those who gave donations and special thanks to those that gave their time to wrap the boxes. It is all very much appreciated. Operation Christmas Child is now over. *Update- We managed to fill 32 boxes with toys, school supplies, and hygeine products! Good job everybody! Thank you once again for making this a success.
-UNICEF. This was finished on November 2, the week of Halloween. We are still currently counting the money but once we have a total figure, we will announce it. Unicef is now over.
-Oxfam. Bingo Night was a success and attendance was through the roof! Thank you to all those who participated and helped with the event. Tabling will continue until the end of this week (Friday 11/16) so if you want to, please sign up right away. Also, please remember that when you donate, you need to write Sigma Beta next to your name or we will never be able to find it and give you the points you deserve. Oxfam is now over.
-Goodwill. We will be accepting donations for Goodwill until Friday, December 7 at the Sigma Beta Social. That is the latest deadline. We will not be accepting donations after that day so please try to get it in early.
-Old Exams. Please look in the Blackboard folders for information on this. We will continue collecting exams until the Social on December 7. Remember to please bring an answer key with the test because we cannot accept it without one.

*Sigma Beta Social. Food, games, and prizes! Friday, December 7th at 7PM in SAC 303. This is the last opportunity to drop off any outside volunteering letters, old exams (with answer keys), and Goodwill clothing for this semester. In addition, attendees will be given 2 points. You have nothing to lose! Have fun, get to know each other and the e-board a little better, eat good free food, and earn points all in one night. We hope to see you all there!

We are currently updating the official Excel files for you so rest assured that we have documentation of your points. Blackboard has been giving us issues with updating points so please be patient. The Sigma Beta Honor Society will be hosting a Blood Drive in the Blood Bank (located in the Main Lobby of the Hospital) Tues. November 27th from 1-8pm. 11.03.2007 -- OXFAM Bingo Night
Hi! OXFAM Bingo Night will be on Monday, Nov. 5th at 7PM in Union 249. There is a 5 dollar buy in for cards that you can pay with your meal plan card. This money goes to OXFAM America which is a non profit organization to alleviate world hunger. You will receive two points for attending the program and 1 point for every additional five dollars you donate. Please remember to sign the sign in sheet if you go. Thank you.

11.02.2007 -- Operation Christmas Child
Hello all!
The first wrapping party will be held this upcoming Monday at 10pm in West Apartments E-Commons. If you intend to attend this event to help us sort and wrap the boxes, make sure you e-mail me by 6pm that Monday night. Space is limited so first come first serve. I know that it is late but there will be another one at the end of the week at an earlier time. So don't fret too much. After all, people should still be making donations this upcoming week.

10.31.2007 -- Friday Office Hours
Hello! Please be advised that I cannot hold office hours from 9am-10am this Friday (11/2) and next Friday (11/9). I am sorry for the inconvenience this may cause. We really need volunteers for OXFAM Tabling. If you would like to submit old exams, please ensure that you attach the answer key, and label the exam with the course name, for example, CHE 131. Please note that you will earn 1 point for every two exams donated (attached answer key is mandatory), and that you can earn a maximum of 4 points from donating exams. If you would like to access an old exam, please e-mail the officer to whose office hours you would come by to pick it up, at least 48 hours in advance.

10.01.2007 -- OXFAM Hunger Banquet
The OXFAM Hunger Banquet will be held in the Benedict Atrium (Benedict College in H Quad) on Wednesday, Oct. 3rd at 7PM. This is a social/educational event meant to increase Third World poverty awareness and food will be provided. You will receive two points for attending the event provided that you SIGN THE SIGMA BETA SIGN IN SHEET. If you do NOT sign the Sigma Beta sign in sheet, you will not receive points for going since we will not have a record of you being there. The sign in sheet will be held by Mai Luong or Jin Woo Cho. It is your responsibility to find either of them and sign the sheet. If you would like to volunteer for the set-up/clean up, you will receive one point per hour you volunteer before, during and after the event (please note that if you decide to volunteer, you CANNOT get two points for attending the event as well; you may receive either two points for going or a maximum of three points for volunteering). There is a SEPARATE sign in sheet for volunteering at this event. You MUST sign this sheet in order to receive points. There will be a Sigma Beta officer (Mai Luong) present if you want to volunteer to set-up, cleanup, etc. Please arrive for the setup dressed neatly and ready to work at 6:00PM in the Benedict Atrium. 10.01.2007 -- Operation Christmas Child
Hello awesome Sigma Beta members!
October is fast approaching and I just wanted everyone to know that I will begin collecting items for Operation Christmas Child on Wednesday, the 10th. Before that date arrives I will have an updated section under the Information tab detailing the point distribution for acceptable items. Please remember that we currently do not have an office or a convenient storage space so be conscientious when bringing items. If possible, spread them out over the week so that no officer is burdened by 50 bulky bags. The absolute last day to make a donation for this drive will be Wednesday, November 7th. Be on the lookout for further announcements on shoe-box wrapping activities.

You will receive 2 points if you donate blood. If you've answered "yes" to any of the above questions, you should come to the New Member Open House of the Sigma Beta Honor Society on Monday, April 9 at 7:00pm. The location is Student Activities Center Room 306. During this informative Open House, there will be a full explanation of the Sigma Beta point system as well as a interactive question and answer session with current full and provisional members. Please be advised that the last day that points will be accepted for consideration of 2007 Induction into the Sigma Beta Honor Society full membership is Friday, March 30, 2007.
03.26.2007 -- Salvation Army Clothing Drive
Sigma Beta is participating in the Salvation Army, which is an event designed to distribute donated food, clothing and tolietries to the homeless population of the New York City Metropolitian Area. For its part, Sigma Beta is collecting gently used clothing, which can be dropped off at either E-board or Steering Committee office hours. Points will be distrbuted as follows:
Item Amount of Points Comforter (any size) 3 Blanket (any size) 2 4 shirts 1 2 pairs of pants 1 2 sweaters 1 1 sheet 1 bags(pocketbooks, backpacks, pillowcases) 1
-1 pair of shoes (no flip-flops or heels) will recieve 1 point.
-1 hat, pair of gloves or a scarf will recieve 1 point.
The maximum you can recieve for any combined contribution is 1/3 of your points towards full induction. There is a dire need for mens clothing as well as women's clothing in sizes 8-14. However, we will not accept any children's clothing at this time. The last day for collection of these items will be at the last office hour of the Spring 2007 semester, which is Friday, May 4.

03.26.2007 -- Playstation Games and Controllers Drive
Sigma Beta is currently collecting Playstation 2 controllers and games for donation to the Stony Brook University Medical Center Pediatrics Unit. The honor society will award 2 points towards each controller donated and 1 point towards each game in good used condition (no violent games allowed!). Please bring in the games to any Steering Committee member's office hours for consideration.

03.26.2007 -- Receiving Points for the Community Service Requirement
There is a Blood Drive coming up. It will be held on March 8th, from 10AM-4PM.
We are looking for Volunteers and Donors.
Volunteers receive 1 point per hour. Donors receive 2 points per donation.

03.26.2007 -- Old Exam File Donations
Did you know that Sigma Beta offers its members points for donations of old exams to its Old Exam File? Members can recieve 1 points towards induction for every two complete exams that are given in-a complete exam is an exam with the requisite answer key if the exam is multiple choice or true-false. The maximum point allowance for this activity is 4 points, regardless of standing. Exams must be brought in to an office hour of a Steering Committee member for consideration.
03.26.2007 -- St. Margaret's Food Pantry
St. Margaret's Church Food Pantry is a non-profit food distribution which provides food to hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. Sigma Beta has decided to assist this organization's goals by holding food drive in their honor. For every five 14.5 oz cans or 5 1 pound boxes of pasta donated, you will recieve 1 point towards induction. The maximum allotted points towards any donation will be 4 points, or the equivalent of 20 cans.
Items that are most desperately asked at this time include:
-infant formula and baby food
-canned vegetables and fruits
-canned beans
-canned proteins (meats, seafood)
-canned/long-shelflife milk products
-pastas and other whole grain products
