Viva la Raza
Viva la Raza is an event hosted by the Beta Chapter of Phi Iota Alpha and the Alpha Delta Chapter of Sigma Lambda Upsilon, Senoritas Latinas Unidas. The purpose of this event is to promote pride in our Latin American culture while educating our community. This year we present our third annual Viva la Raza. This year's theme is the Forgotten Roots; the event will focus on the oft-denied aspect of the African diaspora within Latino culture. Our method of preserving African influence is through musical and articistic expression.
Throughout the evening, our guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of entertaining acts, including live performances of traditional dances, singing, poetry, and many more compelling and inspiring acts by members of the Latino community. The night promises to deliver a level of enjoyment that will be unforgettable to all.
For the past two years, Viva la Raza has earned recognition from Stony Brook University as the campus' most successful program of the year. The program is entirely non-profit; this year, all the proceeds will be donated to a cause that promotes the education and preservation of African culture among Latinos and abroad, The Legacy Circle.
