About the Club
The Bushido Club was founded in 1993 with the intention of sharing martial
arts and a method of self-defense with the campus community. The form of
martial arts that is taught is called Goshin Ryu Aikijui-Jutsu, which
translates into harmonious art of self-defense.
What is Aikijui-Jutsu
Aikijui-Jutsu is a traditional Japanese martial art that is deeply rooted
in the culture of the Samurai Class of ancient Japan. It is the
forefather of more widely known arts such as Aikido, Judo and Hapkido. It
is not completely clear exactly when the art originated, however most
scholars agree that it was between 850 and 1050. Throughout the years of
its existence, Aikijui-Jutsu has been passed down through many generations
of families or clans with each clan emphasizing certain aspects of the
art.
The main philosophy of Aikijui-Jutsu is that rather than
meeting force with force, the use of circular motions and redirection of
an attackers energy are employed to neutralize ones size and/or strength
advantage. The art has a wide variety of techniques ranging from strikes,
nerve attacks and chokes to submissions, ground fighting and
projections.
