On Leaving Buddha Gaya
by Bhikkhu Khantipalo

Leaving, one is always leaving!
Melancholy music sounds
In minor key from far away.
It serves us as reminder--
That we are always leaving,
Leaving what we like
And leaving unliked too.
Leaving, going far away
From friends and parents,
Wives and children,
From those we love,
And from respected teachers.
And always leaving, leaving.
Leaving without end!
Leaving never ceasing--
Leaving the impermanent.
So should we not consider
The leaving of this leaving?
That we may live
Without lamenting leaving?
