Course differs from standard format!!
No Lectures - no mandatory recitations. "Lecture" time used for workshops with quizzes in class for credit (10% of grade). Pre-Workshop Quizzes on web for credit due before workshop. Pre-Lab Quizzes on web for credit due before lab. Ten Lab sessions. Helproom (A129) staffed part of the time and e-mail help given by R.E.

1st lab in week of 9/11. (Pre-Lab Quiz Lab_0 (Errors) due Fri 9/15 midnight , Pre-Lab Quiz Lab_1  due 1/2 hour before lab).

workshop for credit Tue 9/12. You have to purchase your remote control before Tue 9/12 noon in order to participate in this workshop for credit.!! (See details below.)

Material needed:
1)
Lecture videos, lecture notes are on 2 CDs ( Windows only! Required). You purchase the CDs on the web at
                      www.edusofd.com

pick it up in D106 (Graduate Physics)  Mon 9/11 noon to 8 pm. You can get help with homework, Tue 9/12 9-11am,1-3 pm,6-8pm (see "1st's" above) and reading the CD there too.
Instructions on how to read the CD are on it  and here under "Lectures". In order to read/view  the lecture notes/videos you need to extract them from the CD into the c:\user directory on your hard disk.
Print out the notes for use in the workshops.

Backup Text :"Physics", 5th ed., Giancoli , covers lecture material unless noted otherwise.  A key in "Handouts" correlates lecture notes chapters with text chapters. Available in the bookstore. (recommended if uncomfortable with CD format).

2) Remote control (like TV control): needed for workshops and exams! Required. Available in the bookstore as of now. Requires registration for a fee with company producing the remote. Instructions on how to enroll your remote control with einstruction.com are here. You need the class key H22774A633 in order to enroll.

3) Lab Manuals and lab report sheets can be printed from the web.

4) All quizzes are on the web:
           pre-workshop: click "Assignments"
           pre-lab: click "LAB"

5) Scientific calculator (simple). Required.

If
you have computer trouble in any of the prequizzes you probably have the old web pages saved on your hard drive. In Internet Explorer click View, then Refresh.  If you still have problems e-mail me. Don't worry you will be able to finish your work for credit.

How to print the lecture notes with several notes-sheets on a page:  open the chapter web page (which is extracted from the CD in your c:/user:ch15.html e.g.) with Microsoft Word. Click "Properties, Finishing, Print on both sides, 4 pages per sheet, OK, OK" (you get the chapter printout of Ch15 you have now).

E-mail help: Never describe in words what you do, show me what you do!!
Use "e-mail help"
in subject field.
1) If at number plugging state:          
a) give algebraic solution (symbols as in notes)
b) give solution  with numbers plugged in
c) give your final number

otherwise you get
"wrong format!"
2) Always give last name and ID#   

otherwise you get "who are you?"
3) Always give full story

If you get on Windows XP the CD reading error:

Microsoft Windows applications." go here and click on the file
AUTOEXEC.NT.txt  and save it as AUTOEXEC.NT.txt  on your desktop
Remove the ".txt" from the filename and drag it into your 
directory 
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\  If you need help e-mail.

CD cannot be read at a sinc site: two PCs in the 
helproom (in back, on the left) can read them. The PC 
furthest away from the entrance can be used to print 
to file
, e.g. ch16.mdi, which  you e- mail yourself for printout anywhere in a sinc site.
