Practice Exams :

NOTE! There was a numerical error in the step (5) solution, fixed now.

Phy122 fs2006 midterm 1 practice exam and solutions:

All questions are multiple choice. You record your choices on a table
supplied to you which will be collected. You then enter your choices
into the online system with your remote. The table will only be used
if the online system faults!!! YOU must work with your
remote!!!

You can navigate through the exam questions at your own pace and
revisit a questions multiple times.

There are 4 essay problems which have been converted to a "walkthrough"
with multiple choice steps. The steps have been numbered through continously
from e.g. (1) to (36). These numbers are the question numbers shown on the
screen under your pad number
during the exam.

Formulae are not provided. You make your own cheatsheet (8"x11",
handwritten).

Print this practice exam and the table for your choices and work with it as
you would usually work in a multiple choice test. Have your cheat sheet
ready!!
Mark the choices A to E in problems 1 to 4 in your table.
For problems 5 to 10 answer each step as a true/false question, true=
and false=B
The table will be your paper submission of the test.
You enter the same choices with the remote into the computer.
(This last feature is not included in the practice test )

later.

The exam covers Chapters 15 to 18 in the Lecture Notes (on the CD).

For those using the text see the correspondence table between Giancoli chapters
and Lecture Notes chapters in the "Handouts" on the web.

How to study for the exam:
Take the Practice Exam above. The format will be exactly as
in the practice exam:
There are 4 "walkthrough problems" and 5 multiple choice problems with 3 parts.

The walkthrough problems are essay questions divided into several steps with each
step being a multiple choice question A) to E).
The multiple choice problems are true/false problems, answer A for true and B for
false
.
The material for the walkthrough problems are the examples and
quizzes in the Lecture Notes. A "twist" is applied to them. A good way to
study is to have a partner and twist the problems yourselves, e.g. giving  "b" and
asking for "a"  instead of giving "a" and asking for " b", ....
The material for the multiple choice problems are the workshop quizzes posted
on the web under "Lectures", scroll down to "Workshop". Again a "twist" is applied
and it is useful to work with a partner.

I am not saying it is useless to review the prequiz homework problems.
You learn , of course, but the material is taken from the Lecture Notes and
workshop quizzes.

Cheatsheets allowed: 1 sheet, 8x11 inches, doublesided,
handwritten
.
No formulae supplied. You make your own formula
sheet  in your cheatsheet.
Good luck for the exam!
