Give the children a page a day to complete. If they are confident writing, let them finish the sentence. If not, have them dictate the information as you write. You can have the children color the book or be creative. Throughout the year, I save leftover materials from past projects. These are placed in my scrap box. Open your scrap box and bring out the wealth of materials. Use tactile materials for hair or clothes.

When the book is complete, punch holes in the side and tie together with yarn!

At circle time, share a book a day. Chart the information from each book. Write each child's name in a row. Above each name have the children write how many people are in their family. Graph the results.

Make a chart with the headings:

MY HAIR COLOR
MY FAMILY
I LIKE TO..
THINGS THAT ARE SPECIAL TO ME
I HOPE TO..
Fill in the chart as each child shares his/her book. Count how many people have a certain color hair. Talk about more and less. Graphing is endless with this activity. Have the children find someone in the class who shares something in common. Discuss the findings.
