Procedures:
I. The students will view the the following Sea Otter information sites:
II. The students will work in cooperative groups to answer questions regarding Sea Otter habitat, behavior, life span/endangered status.
A. In cooperative groups the students will choose jobs :ie leader, recording secretary, and reader.
B. The leader will enter the web sites mentioned above.
C. The reader will read the section aloud to the rest of the group.
D. The group will work cooperatively to answer the teacher made questions.
E. The recording secretary will write the group's answers on the appropriate worksheet .
III. The questions based on the web site mentioned above are as follows:
A. Description:
1. What color are Sea Otters?
2. What features distinguish the Sea Otter from a River Otter?
3. What is the length and weight of an average adult Sea Otter?
4. What is interesting about the Sea Otters fur?
B. Habitat:
1. Name two countries where the Sea Otter now lives.
2. What is the Sea Otters preferred habitat?
C. Behavior:
1. What do Sea Otters eat?
2. Are Sea Otters herbivores, omnivores or carnivores?
3. What is interesting about the way Sea Otters eat?
4. What do you call a group of Sea Otters?
4. How fast can a Sea Otter swim?
D. Lifespan/Endangered Status
1. What are the natural enemies of Sea Otters?
2. How many years can a Sea Otter live in its environment?
3. List the main reason why Sea Otters are endangered.
4. Approximately how many Sea Otters are left in California?
5. What is the lifespan of a Sea Otter?
Closure: The students will use the information they attained from the website to write a report detailing the Sea Otter. In their cooperative groups they will create a life size Sea Otter using the description obtained in the website reading.
Assessment: The students will be graded based upon their final report, life size Sea Otter project and a multiple choice test that will be taken individually.
